Now, lets look into Digital Editing.
Digital editing is a form of electronic media. Being in the form of digital and not analogue. The technique; digital editing is in the use of computers, to manipulate digital data and to be able to edit the footage. There are many different editing software to choose from these days, when wanting to edit and put together a film. The main ones are Final Cut Pro, Sony After Effects, Avid and Adobe Premier Pro. Digital editing is in bits and bytes on the computer, compared to analogue which uses chemicals on the film. The whole process of digital editing is done on a computer software, so there is no printing or slicing involved.
Digital editing took over analogue editing as digital editing is much cheaper to accomplish. Only needing a computer and a software to edit. The positive and negative film would of been expensive for analogue, also the machine to put it through to complete it; K.E.M or moviola, would of been expensive to buy and use. Also digital editing is much quicker to use being the editing is not done by hand, instead on a software which is much quicker. Also, instead of having to edit on an already completed film or sequence like analogue. With digital you can edit with a uncompleted film, and also start editing from anywhere you would like.
The purpose of digital editing is to create pace for the film or production. Being that digital editing is at a fast and steady pace, the editing process can be done in no time, compared to analogue which is done by hand, having to take a slow pace to get it all done. Digital editing is also there to engage the viewers, being there is a lot of different effects or ways to jump from one scene to another with digital editing software. The editor can make sure they use the right effects and cuts for each scene, making sure the audience will be completely engaged to the film from the digital editing. That will not make them lose interest due to editing. Digital editing helps the pace of the film flow more with different effects and the technique helps cutting from one scene to another be easier. Which helps the narrative of the film flow more, so the audience can understand what is going on,
An example of the use of technique; digital editing. Is the trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. Which was realised in 2010. the editor of the film and trailer used the digital editing software Autodesk. each scene in the trailer uses effects like cut, fades, swipes and etc. Making sure that all effects are used to keep the audience engaged and persuade them to watch the film, using fast pace digital editing and different effects to interest and amaze the viewer. Also the editing in the trailer is at a fast pace. So the trailer shows as much engaging scenes from the film as possible, to help persuade the audience to want to go see the film.

Another example is the trailer for the film; Dracula Untold. Released in 2014. The editor for this film used the digital editing software Autodesk, the same as our first example. Autodesk is an American company that makes digital software for media. Most studios compliment the software of how it is easy to use for 3D design and rendering. The trailer uses a lot of fast motion and fast cut. To make the audience excited and intense about the media, being shown how thrilling and how much action is in the movie. Persuading the audience to go watch it. Being an action and thriller movie, digital editing helps to show its genre in the trailer. Using a lot of dark colours and fast movement during the trailer, it helps to show the audience the intense action and horror in the film by the trailer, wanting the audience to want to go and watch the film.
